Even with ample drainage and well compacted fill, we still have a rocky dirt road prone to erosion. Nothing short of paving can prevent that. The coming storm season will will do some damage. Some of the concrete patch and bedrock protrusions will start to re-emerge. Although not as severe as they were before.

 

By November we will have a good look at the conditions and determine what is needed in the problem area. Either continue building up the road until it's stable, or rip out the concrete patch, jack-hammer off protrusions and resurface the area with either 'crusher run', asphalt, or concrete.

We still have no solution for disconnecting the bottom of the road from the coast. Plans have been developed, but nothing yet that is cost-effective and does not interfere with private properties.

NOTE: Both DPNR and Coastal Zone Management (CZM) have become much more vigilant in looking for watershed issues.
